Why we exist

Hizbah started with a simple question. Why should the clothes we wear every day say nothing about what we believe? This page explains the idea behind the brand and the principles we design by. For who we are and how we make our tees, see About Hizbah.

What hisbah means

Hisbah, which we write as Hizbah, is the Islamic duty of accountability: encouraging what is good, stopping what is wrong, and starting with yourself. In many Muslim cities, an official called the muhtasib checked markets for honest weights and fair trade.

We took the personal side of that idea. Being accountable in ordinary moments, even when no one is watching. Keeping your word, dealing fairly and staying patient on a bad day. Read more in our Journal: What does Hizbah mean?

The principles we design by

1. Meaning over logos. Each design carries a word or a line from the deen. Our own branding stays small on the chest.
2. Made for everyday wear. Our tees are for college, work, travel and the weekend, not saved for Eid. Both fits are unisex.
3. Only what we can stand behind. Oversized tees use 240 to 260 GSM cotton and regular fit tees use 180 GSM cotton, both French terry loopknit. A design goes live only when we are happy with the fabric, fit and print.
4. Honest dealing. Prices and charges are shown before you pay, including the Rs. 99 COD fee, and our shipping and returns rules are written in plain language.

The words on our tees

Most of our designs are built around a single idea from Islamic teaching. Three of them come up again and again:

Where we are headed

For now, Hizbah makes only T-shirts: oversized and regular fit. We would rather do one thing well than many things quickly. New categories will come only when they meet the same standard.

Questions about our vision

Is Hizbah a religious organisation?

Hizbah is a clothing brand run by Hizbah Lifestyle LLP in Mumbai. The name and the designs draw on Islamic values, but we are a business that makes T-shirts.

Who are Hizbah T-shirts for?

Anyone who wants everyday clothing that carries a meaningful message. Both our oversized and regular fit tees are unisex.

Will Hizbah make more than T-shirts?

Not yet. We are focused on T-shirts for now. New categories will come only when they meet the same standard of fabric, fit and finish.
